So here is the status on the 29 windows we are trying to replace via Lowe’s (using Reliabilt series 3900 windows):
- 10 windows were installed (8 on the 2nd floor and 2 in the basement) – the remaining 19 windows had problems
- one window was never even ordered (this is especially crazy because the Lowes sales person supposedly measured all the windows and that was followed up a couple days later, supposedly by the installer, Adams Exteriors in Richmond)
- all 7 wood grain Reliabilt windows were defective – although not a problem with the samples lent to us by Lowes, the actual windows had horrible problems with every seam (see last post) in which the white vinyl shows through and they tried covering it with marker. Lowes or Reliabilt offered to send someone to cover up the problems; however, that brings us to the 2nd problem in which the windows also had gauges and/or places where the wood grain veneer was coming off. This is especially problematic since we never touched the windows let alone open them once. Therefore, Lowes is reordering the windows with about a month delay. Furthermore, I didn’t look at all of them but one had a splitting inner frame weld as reported by the installer.
- one window arrived with a cracked outer frame
- the last ten windows were all wrongly measured/sized.
So before siding even begins, 2/3 of the windows are screwed up.
